Editorial Policy

This page explains how Air Purifier Issues researches, writes and updates its content, so you can judge how much weight to give it.

What we cover

We cover air purifiers and indoor air quality: how these devices work, common problems and fixes, filters and maintenance, and how to choose a model. We stay within that scope.

How articles are researched

  • Facts about how air cleaners work come from official and published sources, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the American Lung Association, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and peer-reviewed studies.
  • Model-specific details such as filter types, coverage and settings come from the manufacturer’s manual or product listing. When we repeat a maker’s figure, we say it is the maker’s figure.
  • When we cite a study, we report only what it says. We do not claim that an air purifier cures, treats or prevents any disease.

How we choose products

Our product picks are based on research, not laboratory testing, and we say so in each guide. We look at maker specifications, filter type, stated room coverage, noise, running costs such as replacement filters, and how widely a product is reviewed by shoppers. We favor established brands and true HEPA filtration, and we leave out ozone-generating devices. Nobody pays us to be included in a list. We do not show prices or star ratings on the site because they change; check the store page for current details.
